Raat ki mez

How a line arrives after midnight

Most of the pads on this site did not begin in a studio. They began when the house had gone quiet and the name Shyam was still sitting on the tongue.

A line such as “मेरे श्याम आप आये थे, बहार आई थी” is almost too simple. That is why it works. The second half — leaving, निर्मोही, अकेला — is the midnight part. Arrival is easy to write in daylight. Absence needs the clock to stop being useful.

If you write, keep a scrap near the bed. The useful sentences rarely wait for morning tea.

This week’s geet on the site is that same bhajan. Read it, then let the next line of your own night stay unfinished.
